Have you looked into the agent log? What does it say? 90% of the time, you'll find a good lead in the logs. 10% of the time, your remain SOL ;-)
You can access the log from the ePO server (show agent log) or from the client directly (path depends on the OS and your reporting settings)
Try Checking in your 8.7i extensions into EPO again and see if that straightens it out.
