McAfee Validation Trust Protection service is not started and the On-Access Scanner is disabled

The following KB speaks to the issue. Anyone have a workaround besides the unsupported applet?

Not sure how a valid workaround is unsupported. Literally in a position of having to rollback to 4.8 > deploying VSE >  deploy 5.0.4

      Any help is appreciated

      Technical Articles ID:   KB88532

After you install MA 5.x followed by VSE, the McAfee Validation Trust Protection service is not running and the On-Access Scanner is disabled.

      Cause

The McAfee Validation Trust Protection service should be set to start automatically when VSE is installed; however, it is not if MA 5.x is installed prior to VSE. In this case, the Start value of the service is set to 3 (Manual) rather than 2 (Automatic).

If the McAfee Validation Trust Protection service is not started programmatically by other McAfee modules, it will not run. If this service is not running, the McAfee McShield service will also not start. This causes the On-Access Scanner to be disabled.

      Solution

This issue will be resolved in a future release of McAfee products.
