Trojan-PoweLike!Ink or could be Lke small L

    kwest2know

I am not certain if I'm in the right place, but here goes. I have McAfee Total Protection. I am now getting a quarantine notice every time I start my computer. It shows Trojan-PoweLike!Ink or the last pert could be an small L for lnk. It is located in two places. I can delete them but every log in they're back. I also see Windows Power Shell problem, plus I a pop up at the beginning for Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool asking do I want to allow this to make changes. I always push no as I thought with McAfee I didn't want to start Microsoft. Now what? I want to remove it, but I am don't want to do something for fear I'll remove something I need. I usually go to CNET Newbie forum but as I now have McAfee thought I'd try here. What can I do to kill it permanently without hurting my PC?

      Thanks.

I moved this to Malware Discussion > Home User Assistance.

When you say you delete it do you mean opening the Quarantine Folder and deleting it from there?

(Open interface and go to Navigation > Quarantined and Trusted Items.)

Try rebooting into Safe Mode and running the software there.  You can do that by simply right-clciking the taskbar icon and selecting Scan.

Also try running extra tools - Malwarebytes Free from the link below.

If that fails to help then scroll down to the bottom of that link and follow the instructions on how to use Farbar and post its results on a specialist forum.

            kwest2know,

If I may add.. It sounds as though you are infected with the 'PoweliksTrojan/Virus' In addition to Colleague  Exbrit's suggestions. You may try this reliable Removal Guide; How to remove Trojan.Poweliks virus (Removal Guide)

The system restore will not work. It gave me:

System restore failed while scanning drive C:\

try running after chkcsk/R on this disk

              unspecified error 0.80070571

How many things do I need to download? Catdaddy looks to have four items I would use successively to make sure the Trojan is gone. On yours you have so many also. If I download McAfee RootkitRemover, try it and see it worked then great; however if it doesn't do the trick do I uninstall that and download Stinger?

I ask as I am hesitant to download items as I know some do not play well with others, just not sure which ones. Realize too, I know some things about fixing a computer but I have to look many things up, so I worry I know just enough to be dangerous to my computer.

              Thank you.

Follow the instructions for using the Farbar software and post its log on the forum mentioned - see the link I posted early on.

Scroll down to almost the end.

That way you'll have an experienced anti-malware person helping you, hopefully.

                  kwest2know,

Could you kindly inform us if you resolved your issue? I can understand how at times one can become overwhelmed, if you will in certain instances. I am inclined to agree with Colleague Exbrit, you could possibly benefit from his suggestions.

It turns out I do have something on my computer to remove it I was not aware of, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software removal tool. It removed it, no problem. Apologies for not replying earlier. I'll keep this info you supplied for later, if ever needed.

                    Thanks a bunch,
