    Change keymap in the MWG console ?

    ffichter

      Hello all,

      I grew tired of the US keyboard layout

      Question : is the rc.local the right way to load a different keymap ? Of course it works - but maybe this file could be reset at some point (upgrades, etc.) ?

      Thanks much !

      Fred

      [root@mwg01 ~]# cat /etc/rc.local

      #!/bin/sh

      #

      # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.

      # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't

      # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

      touch /var/lock/subsys/local

      /bin/loadkeys /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwertz/fr_CH-latin1.map.gz

      [root@mwg01 ~]# ls -l /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwertz/

          Hi Fred,

          I would do it this way. Anyway setting the keyboard layout is - as far as I know - no official task that is considered when update routines are developed so it MIGHT be possible that the rc.local file gets overwritten during an update. As we use rpm package manager for all the updates it is unlikely that a user-modified file is overwritten without any notice, but officially we won't give any guarantee that your changes will survive any kind of update.

          Best,

          Andre
