I moved this to General Discussion. It sounds to me like the installation is corrupted. Have you been running any kind of registry cleaner? If so does it have a restore function?
Probably the only thing you can do is completely uninstall all McAfee products via Control Panel > Programs and Features
Reboot if asked to.
Run the cleanup tool: http://us.mcafee.com/apps/supporttools/mcpr/mcpr.asp and reboot
Reinstall from your online account.

I've done exactly what you suggest. I repeated this procedure 3 times, as I thought that the previous day installation was corrupted. The only extra product of McAfee I had was Web Advisor, which I uninstalled before cleaning too. Yes, in all 3 cases, I installed AV from my online account.
That's odd. All I can think of would be either some other security software is installed that is clashing with it, or...
malware is causing the behaviour, in which case try running GetSusp and MalwareBytes Free from the following link and follow the instructions for both carefully.
Otherwise if those turn up nothing I suggest contacting Technical Support by phone, it's free and if at first they can't help, call back & ask for escalation.
Another thought: make sure your System Clock is accurate both time and time-zone-wise.
I've already checked my System Clock and time-zone, which are OK.
I ran malware Bytes Antimalware twice before
Finally, I've contacted Support and asked them to escalate but they were not eager to do so
I've also noticed that McAfee Firewall Core and Validation Trust Protection Services are started as manual and this can't be changed
Those services are the same in my setup so don't change anything there.
Your best bet is support but if you want to give me the ticket number they gave you, I will contact my support contacts and see if they can speed things up.
