Try the following:
Make sure your system is totally up to date, especially Internet Explorer, even if you never use it (other processes do).
Uninstall completely all McAfee from Control Panel > Programs and Features
Reboot if asked.
Run the MCPR cleanup tool and reboot.
Reinstall from your online account.
I have now managed to switch of the Auto Update after forcing McAfee to close through the Task Manager. It's now checking for updates manually and making no progress at all.
Did you enable 'Access Protection' following the attempt to update? Also, from your screenshot it shows you were updated on 1/18/2016. You can try running the latest MVT if it detects any issues. Also, the fix for this issue has already been released.
If all else Fails, you can either Uninstall/Reinstall or contact Technical Support (Free)
