    EPO and VSE  - Vista

      Hi,

I've installed some "Admin-Stations" with Windows Vista (sp1) installed. Now I've installed the framepkg, which i install on every other computer as well.

It seems to install.. stopping all services and so on.

After some minutes my McAfee icon in in the tray an everything seems to be fine. When I right-click it I can't see my McAfee Firewall or Virusscan Icon. Only the ePO Agent.

But there are folders in C:\Program Files.. and even shortcuts in my Start menu. But when i click them, nothing happens.

I've checked my status monitor for some times.. reinstalled agent,.....

After some time i found out, that setup.exe is running on 100%. It seems to be the setup from virusscan. Any ideas why? Seems to run about 2 Minutes. After 5 Minutes.. the game restarts..

I'm running VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0 Patch 1 and ePO 3.6.0.546.

In my McAfee Folder there is only a Virusscan Folder and a Common Framework Folder. Some files of my Firewall are directly on my C: .. some .dlls and even Firetray, Setup.exe..

Should i try to remove my agent (framepkg /remove=agent) (another time happy ) manually delete all folders. and files and install it again.. just to see what happens?

              what firewall??

are you just installing VSE or are you using another mcafee product or plugin aswell
              • 4. RE: EPO and VSE  - Vista
                Hello,

On my notebooks there's installed a mcAfee Firewall too. But this seems not to be the problem. On Desktop Workstations there isn't any firewall active (no windows firewall and nothing else) but the same problem.
                • 5. RE: EPO and VSE  - Vista
                  Ok, new tests..

My Image comes with "normal" Virusscan 8.5. no EPO Support, just a normal VSE8.5. I've deinstalled it and tried to install my framepkg (the same used on my XP machines) with /install=agent /forceinstall.

Vista tells me that something isn't shown on my desktop and asks to show it. - yes. Looks good.. stopping services, installing.. starting services.

McAfee Symbol in my Tray Icon. Reboot (just to be sure).. opening AgentMonitor and EnforcePolicies.

The epo agent begins to install VSE... and still the same failure sad ...on all my Vista machines. Anything went wrong with my framepkg? VSE8.5 should be fully compatible with vista.. even the standalone version works. Epo 3.6.1 should do as well.

                  Any ideas what to try?

The only thing what was to "hard" ;).null Searching the whole registry for mcAfee and killing all entries.

Tried to start the setup.exe which is running while the epo tries to install in elevated mode. Now I've got this error message.

OH wink the error message is german.. I'll try to translate:
Another version of this product is already installed. The installation of this version couldn't be completed. To configure or uninstall the installed version choose "Software" from Control Panel

Download and use the new VSE install package with Patch 4 included. It is available via the McAfee Download site. You can also use the new agent CMA3.6.0 Patch 3 if you want (but your version should be sufficient).
                    • 7. RE: EPO and VSE  - Vista
                      Yeah, seems this helped.

Deinstalled framepkg, and everything else from mcafee on my machine.. checked in new VSE... installed framepkg.. and it's running great!

                      big thx

                      • 8. RE: EPO and VSE  - Vista
We found that to avoid issues when installing the frame package on Vista it's best to right click on the framepkg.exe and click "Run as administrator" (I'm on an XP machine right now so that may not be exact).

That has smoothed things out for us so far.

This is the recommended process from the knowedgebase, if you dont do this then you wont get the install GUI running and nothing will happen.
