Welcome to the Intel Security Communities First off it is always good to hear you had a ' Pleasant Experience' with Technical Support. With your McAfee Personal Firewall, your system is being monitored for both incoming/outgoing communications.
To learn more about your Firewall and all of your other features:
1- Open your McAfee Security Center
2- Click on 'Help'
3- Click on 'Help' again
4- You will be directed to 'Step by Step' Tutorial/Guide to (All) of your features.
I hope this helped....
All the very Best,

In case you require deeper explanation I have passed this onto McAfee for comments as it is above our volunteer experience. I have not seen any issue with the firewall in the 13 years I have been using McAfee here.
I might add that I also have never experienced anything untoward either, for the last 13-15 years.
I'm wondering what exactly that review meant by the following?
.....the firewall is somewhat vulnerable to attack due to only five components being protected.
I think perhaps you are reading an old review where only so many machines were protected with 1 license. Now it's any number of devices, assuming this is purchased from McAfee direct. 3rd party providers such as ISP's and PC Makers may add other restrictions. Also some devices only allow certain aspects of the software to be installed anyway, so I'd have to read that report myself to hopefully understand what exactly they meant.
In any case the strength of a firewall is measured in how well it protects the machine it is installed on, not how many machines it could be installed on, and I've never read anywhere anything bad about McAfee Firewall.

Just 3 of many awards McAfee/Intel receives annually.
Have you a link to the review you are quoting. If we have it I should be able to get McAfee to respond.
Go to "Mcafee Internet Security 2016 Reviews and look under PC Magazine's review of this software.
