LS starts a Scheduled Scan on every boot, no what is scheduled

    ispalten

First, I'm on the Dell supplied version and so far, the lastest LS version has not been made available. I'm also on W10 if that matters.

I don't really know when this started but I think within 2 weeks. Do not recall seeing this before. Sometimes it restarts again after completing as well?

My setting for when to run:

      Capture.JPG

Next scan time IS correct so I assume the setting is being read? After an update this was set back to the default time Which was every Wed, at 4AM (when the computer isn't on) and it seemed to possibly be the problem. With that setting I could understand it starting at boot on Wed (like today). However it wasn't happening only Wed. but every day.

I decided to open the Security History so I could show you the times it ran but I can't get it open... all it does is 'spin'?

      Capture1.JPG

After this I ran MVT and no errors were found?

Still is over 20 minutes later it is still spinning/Please wait... so I started searching for LOGS... I found CSPService.log and it is showing a lot of 'errors' for today:

      =====================

You can set at least yesterday and today I've had more than one scan done, and when I open LS it says 'Scheduled Scan is running'?

I've deleted and re-installed this so many times PLEASE don't tell me to do that again?

Like I said, something changed recently.

I do see this in ABOUT:

      Capture2.JPG

Matches the time above for scanning? Only thing more recent is the signatures on today?

      Thoughts?

OK, it is 12:40 now and it has started already again:

          Capture.JPG

Clearly a Scheduled Scan... and I can't open SYSTEM_ODS.LOG as it is in use... probably by this scan? Can't even open Security History opens, the same spinning, closed it and now I can't even open it again?

          • 2. Re: LS starts a Scheduled Scan on every boot, no what is scheduled
            Peter M

It's best to not schedule a scan at all then and only initiate one when you want it to happen.   So turn off scheduled scans altogether as they will otherwise always try to run at the next opportunity they get if the time scheduled is missed.

All those details would mean more to Technical Support which you can consult if you wish - free by phone or online chat.

Consumer Technical Support (alter Country @ top right as needed)

The never-ending Security History is a bug they are aware of which hopefully will be addressed soon - to stop it, reboot.  I get it on one of my machines too.

Or-  the process is mcuihost.exe which you could end in Task Manager.

Also scheduled scan if you shutdown while it is running will continue when you restart. At least this what I have seen occur.

                Well I turn-off ALL scans.

Doesn't seem to matter. Remember I posted at 12:40PM my time. I can now get to that log file:

Another scan was started immediately after the one I posted about finished? 2nd one had 43 files less to scan??? Something is going on here.

I do NOT re-boot or shutdown when a scan is running, I let it finish.

By all scans do you mean that you also turned off Auto-update, QuickClean (if scheduled) and Vulnerability Scanner (on by default)?   The latter can be found under PC and Home Network Tools..

I'm not certain exactly what scans are logged and which aren't actually but it's a thought.

As Tony states, any scan that was scheduled during a shut-down would run at next boot as would any scan that may have been interrupted.

Also have you run the Virtual Technician to see if it can find any faults and correct them?

In Windows 10 is Fast Startup disabled or not?   This "hybrid shut-down or sleep" can confuse software, not sure how our software behaves in that situation as I have mine turned off.

Auto-Update isn't a scan per se is it? I have that one, and the file could wouldn't show as a large number as normal scan's do. QC and VS are always off on this computer. VS is more of a problem than a help. Most apps auto-update and the real problem is back version code many times means a new license.Apps like TeamViewer it can't even install. Of little value to me.

I posted MVT didn't find anything to fix above. First thing I thought of.

I DID have Fast Boot on. I thought it was off? I boot off of an SSD and there is not much difference on or off. I've turned it off, hope that will help here. Thanks for the pointer.

When Fast Boot is off the computer actually shuts down and restarts when you hit Restart whereas before all it did was go into hibernation/sleep and restart.   It does make a difference in how things behave...better with it off usually.
