I wasn't aware that it was possible to delay updates in the consumer software plus it only updates, at the most, once a day. Are you sure it's not Total Protection Service (SaaS Endpoint Protection) which is an Enterprise product?
OK, I'm about to sign off for the day so let's assume it is the consumer version. First run the Virtual Technician to see if it finds and fixes any problems.
If it finds problems but can't fix them then try uninstalling the software via the Control Panel > Programs and Features (important to do this first as it restores the license to the account).
Then run the MCPR cleanup tool and reboot.
Reinstall from your online account.
This is all outlined in this FAQ: How to uninstall or re-install supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool
..and if all else fails, Technical Support is free of charge by phone or online chat, see the link below.

In programs to remove, I have Total Protection, but also WebAdvisor and Security Scan Plus and MVT. I installed latest MVT and ran it and it found nothing.
Do I uninstall all the mcafee products (except MVT) before running the cleanup tool program?
It's Security Scan Plus that's causing it, uninstall it - it will be listed as a programme just the same as the rest of the software in Control Panel > Programs and Features.
It is a marketing tool directed at non-McAfee users and included as a free optional download with, amongst others, Adobe products. (Flash, Reader, Shockwave etc.)
You must have overlooked the options.
They carry it as a help to keeping their software free of charge.
If that cures it then no need to go through the longer removal process first mentioned btw.
Tried that. Rebooted after the uninstall of Security Scan Plus. So far still the same problem. Will give it another day and get back tho.
Whenever updating Adobe and other software always be on the lookout for those optional "extras" too as thay can bring their own share of problems.
Sorry to hear that didn't help.
See how it goes, but probably the best thing to do would be a complete uninstall, cleanup and reinstall as previously posted.
Another computer has been having the same problem. I went to uninstall and found Security Scan Plus was not installed on it.
Am still having the same problem on both computers. Have to think this is a bug in Mcafee Total Protection, since hard to believe both computers need a reinstall.
Very annoying that it completely ignores my selection to delay the update (I have been picking delay 2 days) for any amount of time and comes back in an hour with another update notice.
It will ignore that in some cases as a) A/V updates are daily and b) some updates are very important for your protection. As the software updates daily I suggest setting it to update automatically and that way it will be silent most of the time.
Other applications also update from time to time, Site/WebAdvisor updates silently all the time, Anti-Spam, if you have it, updates quite frequently too.
