We have seen similar issues with Dual Homed servers and this KB https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB53169 could be related.
Could you try the documented solution which declares the binding order for the NICs....?

Thank you, but it seem there is no solution - the advice in that article is to submit Product Enhancement Request so it seems a known issue, but they simply choose to not address it.
why can't the agent keep a track of the IP addresses configured on server? communications to ePO are always done over interface with binding order two in our case
