Open the McAfee security Centre and click on Navigation general Settings and alerts and access protection. Disable access protection and retry update. If it works post back and restore the access protection.
Post the MSC version number ie 14.0.1040 or whatever you see in the about link bottom right

Agreed - probably a coding error, but they do know about it and I assume Peacekeeper will bring this up on our Conference Call with McAfee staff on Monday afternoon (4pm US Eastern time). That's why he asked for some details.
We thought it was fixed, obviously not.
Any long term solutions?
There is a temporary and rather complex fix via the Registry but I was told not to pass it on, besides it may not work as it was specifically for my Beta McAfee installation which isn't exactly a conventional setup anyway. The issue was supposed to have been fixed in an update anyway so we are investigating. Peacekeeper, when he awakes (he's in Australia) will no doubt add something to this.
I suggest anyone experiencing this contact Technical Support and ask for escalation as it's not something we can fix here.
It's free by phone or online chat. If you've already dealt with them and they couldn't help, go back to them and ask for escalation. That will take it to a higher level.

I´ve posted about this problem Before as you know. Yesterday I did a complete reinstallation of Mc Afee internet security. I usedd all the tools that is recomended by Mcafee when you do a reinstallation. It seemed to work I got one update after installation of the motorversion and it switched from Siteadvisor to Webadvisor. Then today same problem again. Same error message as Super1 posted above. I´m no expert on either computers or software but to me it seems to be connected to the Mcafee update to version
14.0.1076. Our problems seems to be started the same date as the update. I really don´t know what to do now. I unchecked the accesprotection but that didn´t work for me. Hopefully their will be a solution to this problem soon, And I hope it will be posted in this forum when it appears.
Yes I know and if they ask you to reinstall say no it wont work and please to escalate this to a higher level.
Is this something that can potentially affect any version of McAfee Anti-Virus software? I have Security Center and now have build 14.0.1076 following a recent update, but haven't experienced the above problem. I'm still not clear what the difference between Security Center and Internet Security is - or isn't there one?
