Open Internet Explorer please and then go to Help/About and tell me what version it says there.
Did you also run the MVT as I suggested?
BTW regarding service packs.....Win 8 and 8.1 haven't had any yet, but a service pack is when you see someone saying my system is Windows 7 SP1....the SP stands for service pack.
Microsoft appear to be shying away from using them with the newer systems anyway, so no need to worry about that question.
If I may interject briefly, I would suggest to also Download/Install Malwarebytes (Free). It is a Superb Anti-Malware Application, and is entirely compatible with McAfee. It is a compliment to your Protection if you will. To keep it (Free) follow the instructions just before Downloading:Anti-Spyware/Malware & Hijacker Tools
You can keep this onboard as a On Demand Scanner, simply update each time before scanning.
