    McAfee Agent visibility

      McAfee agent is not visible on taskbar all the time. When we login to any server where McAfee agent is installed the agent is not visible on taskbar. We have to make it visible via command line everytime .The user through which we login have the admin rights.

       

      McAfee agent version is 4.8

       

      Is there any way to make agent visible everytime on the server taskbar when we login to that server??

          Hi,

           

          Have you configured the McAfee Agent General Policy to "Show the McAfee system tray icon (Windows only) "?

            Also, If the login is via RDP, by design the Agent Shield is not shown.

                But Agent is installed on server ,so we have to take remote to troubleshoot the issue.The team which uses this server wants agent tray to show always as the pop will indicate them that there are some information/problem from McAfee agent side not from Windows.Each time we have to start the agent from command prompt.

                 

                Is there is any alternate for the same.

                 

                Kindly provide the solution(if any) as it is very irritating for the client to use commad prompt whenever they login for enabling Mcafee agent tray

                  The Agent runs in Windows, from the Session ID 0. Each RDP or remote session is using Session ID > 0. To check the Agent functionality on a Server by Remote, you need to remote in to the session ID 0 session:

                  ex.

                    mstsc /admin /v:ip address

                   

                  Launching cmdagent.exe /s from another session (ID > 0) is not recommended and may create problems on the system by reducing and locking available memory. (Logging out of session IDs > 0 may not release that cmdagent agent shield properly and may create additional problems logging back in to another remote session.) That is why it does Not normally launch on session ID's > 0. Only the single launch of the agent is recommended.

                      As Hem stated via the KB article, not with the current agent. Perhaps you can make a Product Enhancement Request:

                      Product Enhancement Request Home https://mcafee.acceptondemand.com/

                      Maybe suggest something along the lines of a shadow agent showing the Console (Session ID=0) agent which simply shows the status.

                       

                      As for technicians trying to diagnose McAfee Agent issues remotely logged in, that Must be done (today anyway) by remotely logging in to the Console session:

                        mstsc /admin

                       

                      Technicians could also Remote Login to the McAfee Console via the VirusScan Enterprise Console Remote Login tool. (On the technician's (remote) system system tray, VirusScan Console > Tools > Open Remote Console) Not sure but the technician may need to be connected to the same network as the server, for this to work.
