SONAR is an advanced form of Norton protection designed to give you a line of defense against malware that hasn't been encountered yet--and therefore cannot be identified and blocked by traditional, signature-based malware protection.
In McAfee I would assume The scanning engine has an equivalent feature but best i ask a lab tech to reply.
McAfee have Artemis that is similar to SONAR of Symantec , which detects unknown threats based on behavior of files.

McAfee equivalent is AMCore which powers 27+ million McAfee Consumer endpoints and recently shipped with McAfee Endpoint Security 10. AMCore provides McAfee Labs researchers the capability to author behavior based detections in the dats. Being able to cover most threats using a combination of behavior + cloud means we’ve been able to reduce the DAT files used for these products to under ~30MB compressed while still delivering great protection.
With upcoming Raptor (currently in pilot) – we take behavior & cloud based detections to the next level with machine learning based behavioral classification happening real-time in the cloud. This will further enhance our detection effectiveness as Raptor gets integrated into future endpoint products.
@Avinash: Artemis is not behavior based. The classification/detection logic used in Artemis is different from Symantec Insight but ultimately delivers the same goal of stopping new emerging malware.
Is it a feature in it . can we enable or disable?
Can you provide me link to this feature?
if you use Virus Scan enterprise
you can follow this link to enable Artemis McAfee KnowledgeBase - How to enable Global Threat Intelligence Technology in your McAfee product
but there may be false positives if you increase in level of Artemis.
So which is the exact equivalent of SONAR ?? Is it the Artemis or AMCore ?
techwin if you happy with the reply can you mark the question as answered.
