Could you please Open your McAfee UI, and go to Navigation/General Settings and Alerts/Informational Alerts/ and see if you have the (Box) checked to (Show Informational Alerts).? I have my Update settings set to (Automatic) and have observed it working as expected.

It's normal to have to close the user interface for some updates to take effect. The alert settings are all in the user interface > Navigation > General Settings and Alerts > Informational Alerts.as CD has just stated.
I think the developers have reduced the pop-ups to a minimum following so many complaints from the gaming community but most of them are still there and just have to be activated.
