Checking into possible wrongly formatted exclusions

If my thinking is correct, to exclude a particular directory and everything under it the correct format is C:\Folder\Folder\ or **\Folder\Folder\  (with selecting exclude subfolders)

Looking at currently configured exclusions we have in place, I see many set as C:\Folder\Folder\*

Will that extra wildcard have an effect on the exclusion? What is the potential impact?
