What setting did you have when running Stinger? Report only, repair?
Note: As Stinger is updated constantly, one has to Download/Run the Latest Version when running the scan.
I might suggest that you run the Latest McAfee Getsusp (Please remember to add your Email address before scanning)
Follow up running McAfee Rootkit Remover ( Read how to use) Best to (Right Click) and run as Administrator.
For a second opinion, run Malwarebytes (Free) To keep it Free, DO NOT accept the Free Trial offer/or Activate.
These Tools can be found here: Anti-Spyware/Malware & Hijacker Tools
Moved this provisionally to Other McAfee Consumer Products.
Raptor (Beta) is included with Stinger now. From the Stinger download page:
Stinger now includes Raptor - a real-time behavior detection technology that monitors suspicious activity on an endpoint. Raptor leverages machine learning and automated behavioral based classification in the cloud to detect zero-day malware in real-time.
You'll notice the reference to the Cloud. Those resources you see being used are probably it contacting the database. Neither Stinger nor Raptor actually install, so once it's run simply delete it from where you saved it, along with any logs or detections (the place for those varies, check settings but is usually on the root drive i.e. C:\Quarantine)..
Thanks Peter I was not aware of that.
Live and learn....
I didn't realize it until I looked ;-)
I just ran it on my Vista Ultimate and saw no noticeable resources used so maybe there are some suspicious files on your machine abbrittain - try some extra tools as per that link Catdaddy posted, also make sure you are running the correct Stinger for your system, i.e. it comes in a 64-bit version for x64 machines, an ePO version for Business/Enterprise folks using ePO, etc.
The initial Raptor version had a couple of stability issues. The current build bundled with Stinger is much more stable and you should not see a re-appearance of what was reported.
Moved to the new Raptor Group.
To continue with this thread customers will need to join the group first.
