so can you access the PC at all? if so try running some of the free scanners as malware could have corrupted McAfee and cased issues

Oh another possibility re the Real time scanner issue is did you have another brand of scanner installed previously and if so did you use its removal tool to clean up the program before installing McAfee?

Am with Support and can assure that representatives will follow Troubleshooting steps based on issue that you face. If you could post the Service Request number that you received from Tech Support Rep, I can review and post my findings.
Recently, real time scan turned off on its own -- attempts to turn it on caused it to immediately turn off again. Suspect malware attacking McAfee itself.
Contact with chat support and giving permission to access computer led to crash requiring restore to factory.
Trying to offload valuable files before doing that. Have heard others with same problem. Has anyone had similar problems with tech support access to computer?
Is this a Desktop or Laptop Computer? What operating system, its Flavor, Service Pack Level and do you have its Hard Drive partitioned? Do you Dual-Boot? Do you work with Acronis Partition Images or similar program?
If you are going to go through the trouble of restoring the computer to Factory Condition, you might wish to try using, McAfee's own QuickClean program, if you have it installed and use it to clean the Windows Registry.
Also, if that fails, uninstall McAfee from Programs and Features, if Vista onward. Then use MCPR on the reboot, to clean what wasn't removed and reboot. Finally use Explorer to remove all leftover Folders that McAfee uses. Run Disk Cleanup.
Now reinstall McAfee and test.
You can bypass all this and simply do a Factory Restore. The choice is yours.
