Moved provisionally to Encryption ePO Managed for better support.
Thank you!! I hope that the data is not lost.
Start at the beginning - exactly what error did you get and exactly what did you attempt to do to fix it?
The laptop was showing a GAP error. I didn't correct the issue and ran the v7.1 exe to encrypt the laptop. After it completed the encrypt the laptop rebooted and went to a black screen and got stuck there. Messages has the McAfee Disk Encryption V7.1...stuck there.
So I went to the ePO Tech thing and tried to do the Emergency Boot with the boot record thing, xml document. Still no love...shows the resetting hardware, disabling USB blah blah message...then bombs out with no bootable device found.
I'm sorry - "Showing a GAP error" means nothing to me - can you give the exact error message, a screen shot, link to a description of what this means?
Ok, so exactly what was the message? I know exactly what 4k alignment is, but specifically what message did you get?
regardless though, if you did an eBoot and got "nothing" it would seem like your hardware is dead - you would ALWAYS get some message after an eBoot.
I would talk to your MDE admins and tell them to check your laptop model in the KC - chances are it needs a BIOS update.
There's a chance it didn't even encrypt- unfortunately you're not really giving us enough information to tell, but certainly an eBoot was probably the worst thing you could have done - It most likely has erased any record of the encryption process.
Your IT team may be able to find the "disk information" doing a search, but if not, you/they will have to inspect the sectors on the drive in the workspace and try and determine what's encrypted and what is not.
If you find the limit of encryption (and you have the right key) you can decrypt. Hopefully though, encryption had not even started.
Final question - EXACTLY what EXE did you run? MDE7.1 is delivered as an MSI through EPO, there is no EXE - are you sure we are even discussing the correct product?
