Have you tried it in Safe Mode? Of course depending on your system that also may not work.
If it wont go then it must be corrupted somehow and your only recourse would be to try the MCPR cleanup tool and reboot immediately afterwards to clean up everything.
But note that MCPR does not remove Anti-Theft if that is installed, and can only remove Family Protection/Parental Controls if you know the Admin password.
The only disadvantage of doing it using that tool only is that the online account will still show a license in use so if that causes a problem in future Customer Service can sort that out for you.

Thanks for help. Used MCPR to uninstall/remove and it worked. Have now reinstalled.
Performance yet to be tested.
