Unwanted Programs Policy vs group policy security

      Hello,

Historically I've used Unwanted Programs user-defined to block a number of things including items that will install without an administrator's permission (think Google Chrome & Google Earth which go under a local application data folder).  At the same time, I realize there are ways to do the same thing under Windows security policy.  I was just curious which way people here have done or if you have used unwanted programs user defined in the way I have.

          Hi there,

I haven't done it before, but I have been working at McAfee and I would recomend to use the GPO to block installations and control users rights.

Antivirus can do things like that but they are intended to protect machines to get infected not to manage users rights. If you don't like using GPO's, you could go for HIPS. I would leave the AV to protect machines to get infected but not to manage user's rights.

          Cheers,
