SQLite Problem with Real Time Scan

I am a  software developer and I am having problems on client machines with McAfee Real Time Scanning. Our application uses continual access to an SQLite database stored on the local machine.

The problem is McAfee Real Time is scanning this file after every access and this is causing severe database lock problems for us, a quick google search shows other companies are running into the same issues,

My question is how do we get around this problem? Is there a way of specifying programatically that a particular directory should not be scanned in real time? Are there any location on the hard disk which are not scanned?

Any help would be appreciated, this is a time critical issue for us.
