Try uninstall MVT and reinstalling it incase the issue was a bug, I will email my contacts for comment

I presume that you downloaded MVT from mvt.mcafee.com after you figured out this error. Please post back the MVT Session ID and grab the Supportability logs from %appdata%\McAfee\Supportability\MVTLogs\Results\result.xml for proceeding further.
Also post back the version of MVT itself..!
I have the same fault on two of my PCs (win7x64 - Mcafee Total Protection), before the last update 10/4/2014, the "mcabootsvcset.exe" ver 12.8.712.0 was available & working.
After the last update "Virtual Technician" reported the following error message:
Problem Missing Files (1)
Product Name: SecurityCenter
Product Version: 12.8.944
Expected File not Present
What is really concerning if you don't run "Virtual Technician" the user is not aware of the fault!!!

My run with a new download had 1 file missing meessage no file name given. The T3 techs tested it and got all ok so they have passed teh question onto the MVT developer.
Brook62 do as Tom suggests and post the version details and the log details as Selvan asked.
