Quick update. Just monitoring perfmon and noted that FcSas and MsMpEng were hogging CPU when this was happening. Both related to Forefront. This does turn out to have been a false alarm however, as when trying to get a perfmon capture, and repeating the test, System Idle hasnt dropped beneath 98, and still MVM is hanging.
I get the same issue with the FASL script editor when trying to expand one of the categories (example: 'Non-intrusive') in the Vulnerability Tree. This has to be something to do with the way it is reading this particular area of the DB, or possibly going through the FASLscripts folder? Well, I say 'has to be' but this is the world of IT - anything wierd may be happening!
Any thoughts on this from anybody would be greatly appreciated!

I got similar problem earlier. I guess you are using IE as browser. Make a try to use compatibility view...
Feedback will be appriciated. Regard, László.
Well, after years in IT it would appear I forgot some basic troubleshooting 101, which is a tad embarassing...
Just to confirm, it wasnt compatibility view in this case, but merely as I was actually using an incompatible browser (IE 11). Connected from another workstation using IE8 (a supported browser) and surprisingly it worked... Just going to sit here and look sheepish for a while.
