I would like to know wether or not it is possible to use the Security for Exchange 8.0 Console for administrating 7.0.1er Exchangeserver/Cluster?
If you mean the StandaloneUI - then no - the dlls involved involved are different.
Okay. That was the point of the question. What a pity :-(
Last question on this: Is the StandaloneUI of v7.6 able to manage ExchangeServer with GS7.0-latest patch (Downard compatible)?
Sorry Don - but have to give same answer. Not compatible.
*sigh* but thanks again and 0:2 for you. We have trouble in using the ConsoleUI.exe of GS 7.0.1 Patch 1 R2 on a new installed W2K8SP1R2 (x64) Server with ePO 4.6.6 on it (KB69257 won´t help anymore). Updating as per SR advised - extracting the StandaloneUI.exe out of the Patch: "Patch1R2(...) /e C:\SDATExtract", and copy over - didn´t work either..
I assume you mean you have installed the GSE standalone console from original GSE701 installation package on the server (which has no other gse or exchange installed)??
Then you have GSE701P1RU2 installed on each node of the cluster???
Then you extract P1RU2 SDat and add the files extract to the relevant folder in the Console Only install folders??
Is GSE installed as cluster resource?? If so are you connecting to Cluster IP Address??
Or standalone did you try connecting to individual IP addresses??
Form the first question to the last one:
As a cluster Resource;
Can not connect due to error message described in KB69257
I can start the console and make use of the option "connect to Server" (and yes, I can make use of the appropriated ressources - nevertheless it is of no meaning if i choose a ressource or a physical system) but as response I get a small blank Window with an "OK" button and after clicking on it, the described error Message of KB69257 comes up.
I should mention this ePO Installation is one of our near future ePO-Server and the whole Exchangeenvirnoment is still managed via the old ePO-Server. But we have to determine wether or not we are in the need of pushing the Update to W2K8 und Exchange 2010, keeping alive the old ePO-Servers for just managing Exchange 2003 on W2K3 or can somehow transfer the Exchange management on the new ePO (with ePO 4.6.6 and Groupshield 7.0) without Updateing ServerOS AND Exchange.
Locally on active node does the console run???
Phiuuu...it´s getting difficult for my english but I will give it a try.
Due to our Active Directory Permissions the locally installed Console on our ePO-Servers is for the ePO-Administraton the only way for an easy access to several informations regarding the behaviour of the Exchangeenvirnoment. There is no permissionset for ePO-Administration on opening an session to the Exchangeservers so I can not determine wether or not I would be able to start - or install - the Console on any of our Exchangeservers.
All I know is we are having difficulties in getting startet with the Console on our future ePO`s and I must admit - I am feeling not happy in dealing with this due to my lack of knowledge in Exchange Server AND Groupshield as product at all.
