It really depends on what OS you are installing to.
To answer your question the minimun version of McAfee Agent you need to support VSE 8.8 Patch 3 is MA 4.6.0 ( Build 2988 ) as per the KB.
VSE 8.8 Patch 3 MA 4.6.0 (Build 2988)
However, as you suggest from KB75672, If you are installing onto Windows 8 then your minimum is McAfee Agent version 4.6.0 P1 for the OS so this would now take precedence over the product requirement ( as it is also later than the minimum required for VirusScan ).
On Windows 7 or XP you could run 4.6.0 ( Build 2988 ).
According to the following article, build 2988 is Patch 2 with HF795818.
So you're saying that for WinXP I need Patch 2, but for Win8 I need Patch 1? It seems counterintuitive that the newer OS would need the older MA version.
We have mostly WinXP machines, some Win7, and some Win8 are starting to get used. We want to roll out the same versions of VSE and MA to everone, ones that are Win8 compatible.
Since our clients already have MA Patch 1, I need to know if I need to roll out Patch 3 once VSE8.8P3 is rolled out, or if I can just stick with our current MA.
