Do you know the actual name of the software? McAfee makes a lot of different types of software so the removal tool may not apply in this case.
The name should be listed in Programs and Features.
But if it's Family Protection or Anti-Theft then it can't be removed without certain measures being taken.
Please indicate if it's one of those.
By the way the Support Portal relies on Internet Explorer being at default settings regardless of your preference for browser, and in Windows 8, IE10 needs to be set to "Compatibility View" for all websites
