you need EEPC 7.1 to get Win 8.1 encrypted on UEFI devices. Anyway, I can't get the touchscreen to work in preboot and it's not recognizing the type cover. After short research I found KB79624 which says it's unsupported on Surface devices.
I'm asking myself what's the problem now, is it on Microsofts side or on McAfees or maybe both of them can't work with each other or they don't care about. With Windows 8 and 7.0.2 and a firmware update everything worked fine, even the touchscreen
As per the KB - Microsoft have decided not to allow any third party software of this type on their devices - it's not something that McAfee can "override", it's not a technical problem - it's a policy decision from Microsoft.
does it apply only to 3rd party encryption software or generally everything that wants to run in the uefi? I saw they even released something that updates the certificates so that you can use secure boot with 3rd party uefi stuff.
But seems that MS is just to lazy or they cant implement things like they did a version before, one firmware supports the pointer protocol - the nex update does not, sometimes i think they dont know what they are doing. If the surfaces weren't so expensive I would have already thrown them out of the window. Well, doesnt matter anymore
Glad it will be looked at. Should I be raising a PER or this is already in the works? Not sure what kind of delays I should be expecting for this kind of fix.
I'd like to be able to encrypt my Surface Pro under Win8.1...
MS released this http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41666 if I understand correctly you can sign your app with it and secure boot will trust it.
Edit : PER #26081 raised

This is a shame
We were looking to upgrade to EEPC 7.1 as we use surface pro's in our company
We currently use Epo 4.6.5 with EEPC 188.8.131.523 and this works fine on Win8 Enterprise (on Surface Pro)
I know the pre-boot login screen is a bit small and the touch screen keyboard is abit cumbersome but at least it works
Looks like we will have to stay on Win8 and not upgrade to 8.1
My surfaces are behaving very strange with win 8.1 and encryption. First it was "working" when I used usb tokens and an external keyboard. Touchscreen or type cover were not working. So the surface is something like a desktop-tablet
Now the type cover is working but on every boot it's not detecting the token until secure boot was enabled and disabled again. Touchscreen still not working. I changed the logon method from token to password so no more usb issues.
