The McAfee Firewall Core Service service hung on starting

I have completely re-installed McAfee Internet Security package because of this problem (also using the McAfee Removal Tool and re-installing Internet Explorer 8)... Even getting the McAfee setup install to function after downloading the software was a misson!

      1. Windows XP SP3 doesn't shutdown properly... it hangs on "Windows is shutting down..." and has to be hard shut down via the power button.
      2. Windows XP SP3 hangs (for 1 minute) on startup, just after loading McAfee and a few other programs.

Without McAfee installed... all is fine.

I noticed when looking in the Windows Event Viewer, 3 errors one after another in this order...

      1. "The McAfee Firewall Core Service service hung on starting."
      2. "The McAfee Personal Firewall service depends on the McAfee Firewall Core Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state."
      3. "The McAfee Anti-Spam Service service depends on the McAfee Firewall Core Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state."

      Thanks for any help...
