We have McAfee Email and Web Security Appliance (3300) v5.5 for web content control but even whitelisting the users IP, accessing from Intranet to the URL http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/ a black page like the below image is shown:
and after 1 minute or so, it fails. Wireshark shows something like this:
188.8.131.52 172.20.x.x TCP 1314 [TCP ACKed unseen segment] [TCP segment of a reassembled PDU]
In normal conditions it should appear:
I appreciate any help. Thank you.
This was posted in the Consumer site-issues Help section. It seems to be a question about Email and Web Security, which is makes it a question for the Business section : so I've moved it there (Business / Email and Web Security).
From my limited knowledge of Wireshark messages this looks like a response to dropped or lost packages. Someone with knowledge of EWS may be able to tell you if the packages are being blocked by McAfee.
Thank you very much for the answer. Something to add: today from Chrome is working because it has something in cache, but not from IE or Firefox, and not from Chrome from other computers. I wonder if the usgs earquake page has something bad. I'll try to contact to the person in charged. But any comment is appreciated. Thank you.
The McAfee IPS was powered off and it worked! Thanks.
That looks like a workaround rather than a proper solution, but at least you have access to the site again.
The USGS earthquakes site is one of my bookmarked sites, and I haven't seen any problems on the site since they changed to the new display interface. It's a clean site which I regard as Trusted, so if there are problems it's probably network-related. Or firewall-related. I'm not really qualified to make a guess as to the actual cause.
Thank you for commenting. The case was escalated to our local McAfee provider. I let you know when is solved. Thanks.
