in Windows 7 32 bit under Start -> All programs -> McAfee -> Virusscan Console you can see and configure Bufferoverflow Protection
in Windows 7 64 bit there is no item for Bufferoverflow.
Can someone tell me the reason?
Thanks in advance
NOTE: Bufferoverflow is notinstalled on 64-bit systems.
But does anybody knows the reason?
Microsoft locked out this feature in the Vista and newer versions of 64-bit Windows. It is a Microsoft decision.
Of the massive changes that took place between XP and Vista, this one upset the security firms. Microsoft felt they could control Buffer Overflow better than the AV software. But for legacy purposes, left control of Buffer Overflow available to the 32-bit OS' and took control away from the 64-bit versions.
thank you for your reply.
It might be a good idea to implement Microsoft's Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET), there is a new beta 4.0 released this month announced at the SRD blog
