It wouldn't normally do this unless there's a lot that the scanner finds 'interesting'. Do you have any suspicious files stored or do you have another security program installed, or maybe remnants of an old one that perhaps weren't properly removed?
Do the computers exceed the minimum requirements for the software? + Is your machine totally up to date, including IE (McAfee uses IE interface)?

Hello, nothing special in terms of 'interesting' files. All system requirements are OK.
Both computers are constantly running at 100% CPU and are barely useable now. All this happened after I installed McAfee.

What version of Mcafee 11.6 or 12.1? That said what are your PC cpu specs? Asking as 11.6 and single core cpus ie P4s do not work well together and will hit 100% cpu regularly.
