On my work computer I have McAfee Endpoint Encryption agent 188.8.131.525 installed. I have a external hard drive unit which I assume I need to encrypt to allow for continued use other than reading only. When I have tried to open some excel files I get a pop up message that the volume is locked. If I try to save to the hard drive, I get a pop up showing the media is write protected.
How do I encrypt the external hard drive so I can continue to use it?
I'm not sure these messages are related to endpoint encryption - Perhaps your IT team have simply blocked external hard disk access?
regardless though, they are the people to talk to in the first instance. Whether a drive gets encrypted or not is up to them - they control it through their central console.
