I'm not seeing that behaviour in mine (Win 8 Pro w/MC x64) but am using McAfee Beta Total Protection which may make a difference as the version is higher than yours I would assume.
It may be the firewall, try opening SecurityCenter and click Web and Email Protection
Click Restore Defaults
That may help.

That's not it... it's not the firewall that's the problem but the real time security. It still had problems when the firewall was down. It works fine when the real time is off. That's what I need to get fixed.
Strange I'm not seeing it. The only thing I can suggest right now is to uninstall everything McAfee via Control Panel > Programs
Run MCPR cleanup then reboot and reinstall from the online account.
That may serve to flag the right dll's for the functions to work properly. Normally McAfee software would always allow any built-in Windows process.

What is the operating system bit ? Is it a 32 bit or 64 bit
Also let me know the versions of McAfee you are using ?
