My mother's computer has been producing the "McAfee 32 bit helper has stopped working" error several times a day. All she uses her computer for is checking email and visiting news and shopping web sites.
Security Center was last updated on 2/17/2013 - V 11.6.477
In addition to this message, her desktop background photo keeps disappearing and going back to the default background.
Dell computer / OS: Windows 8.
Any suggestions on how to resolve?
Is the software supplied directly by McAfee or does she get it from her ISP? I ask because often they deliver an older version of the software and there isn't much one can do about that.
Try running the Virtual Technician: http://mvt.mcafee.com/ to see if it finds and fixes anything.
Also just in case this is malware try running Stinger and Malwarebytes Free, both linked in the last link in my signature below.
If that doesn't help let me know and we'll go a step further.
Please post the screen shot of the error
I will do that if it happens while I'm remoted into her computer, but it's probably not going to add much value. It's the small box that comes up and it only has the (exact) words of:
I downloaded the Virtual Technician and verified it is running but it seems to be running in the background and it's not showing me anything.
I did run a full McAfee scan before posting my question and it didn't find anything.
Ok, Virtual Technician says definitions file is out of date, but when I tell it to "fix" it, it goes off but comes back with the same error. According to the McAfee Security app, the definitions are NOT out of date.
I also got screen shot of the "bit helper" error.

Please expand the View problem details and take a screen shot, post the same
I will have to wait till it happens again. It doesn't seem to be reproducable; it just randomly happens a few times a day.
Also you may get better results from MVT if you save it from the link I provided to your desktop. Then right-click > Proteies > Unblock.
Then run it. The online version is for the GoToAssist helper when contacting Technical Support.
Before you do it though go to Programs and uninstall any MVT you may have right now.

On second thoughts, let me boot into my Win 8 first and look at this. I'll post back.

I need the crash name to understand which one is causing the problem. So please take screen shot once you see the error again with View Problem Details enlarged
