Cloud-based lookups for URL filtering & timeouts

Does mwg7 fall back to using the resident URL filtering database for categorizing web sites in the event that cloud-based lookups fail to respond back in time?

Also, is there a way to define how long mwg7 should wait for a response to cloud-based lookup before treating it as a timeout?

I'd be interested in logic along the following:

  1. Always used cloud first for categorizing URL
  2. If cloud lookup fails to respond in X seconds, fall back to resident database
  3. If resident database classifies site as uncategorized, block (or heavily restrict what's allowed through)

    Hello,

basically you can configure MWG to only use GTI, or you can use it to use GTI when the local database does not contain a response. To get your logic in place you could do the following:

    - Create a URL Filter setting which uses GTI only

    - Create a URL Filter setting that uses local database only

    Create rules such as follows:

    Auswahl_237.png

The first rule will check the URL against GTI. If the second rule is triggered (the request has not been blocked in step 1) we will check if we got any categories. If to, the rule will not execute (because list of Categories is not empty). If no categories have been found so far, MWG will look into the database to rate the URL.

    Best,

    Andre

    Hi!

The timeouts for the GTI cloud are not configurable.  MWG will do 3 attempts to contact the cloud. Each attempt has a 2 seconds timeout. So in total a delay of 6 seconds can occur for one request.

    Ciao

    Felix
