    Inconsistent reporting?

    g4dds

Investigating possible issues with my AntiVirus not updating i.e. when set to automatic updates I have had it go for days and days (16 is the record) without installing an update. If I change the setting to "Notify me when updates are available" it does indeed notify me on a daily basis and updates install successfully. To investigate further I ran MVT to check my installation and it came up with 2 missing COM components and said it could not fix the issues. Investigating the diagnosis log I could see the problem was to do with the file mcbr3264.dll however the curious side of me searched the log for all other occurences of this file and its associate COM components and found the following:

      Expected File Present

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\mcafee\platform\mcbr3264.dll (I have confirmed the file is in this location)

      Expected COM Component not Present
      {516a0fe6-ca82-49f9-97ef-b5091f4b2e5a} C:\Program Files\Common Files\mcafee\platform\mcbr3264.dll
      Expected COM Component not Present
      {83748e14-8f60-4ab3-8a81-7cecbe2b1cbe} C:\Program Files\Common Files\mcafee\platform\mcbr3264.dll

When I searched my registry for the two missing COM component keys above, {516a0fe6-ca82-49f9-97ef-b5091f4b2e5a} and {83748e14-8f60-4ab3-8a81-7cecbe2b1cbe}, I could see that they do exist but are set to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\mcafee\platform\mcbr3264.dll"

Below are the other occurrences of mcbr3264.dll and/or associated COM components. I am confused as to why it does not have problems with those that point to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\mcafee\platform" as this is the same as the two COM components above and I have checked and the file mcbr3264.dll is not in this location?

MVT can be inaccurate depending on what system you have and whether or not it's up to date, what software version you have and where you get it from and whether or not you run registry cleaners.  If there's an ongoing problem that MVT wont handle after a couple of runs,  I recommend uninstalling in the normal way via Control Panel, then running the MCPR cleanup tool, reboot and reinstall from your online account.

Or, contact Technical Support by phone or online chat, it's free and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.

            Hello Peter,

I have the same problem on my PC.

I have processed these steps today:

            1. Uninstall McAfee Security Center

            2. Reboot

            3. Run MCPR

            4. Reboot

            5. Run Registry Cleaner

            6. Reboot

            7. Install McAfee Security Center except the McAfee firewall (use Windows firewall instead)

            8. Install McAfee Virtual technician

            9. Run MVT, MVT detects 3 Regisitry errors (???) and missing component mcbr3264.dll

                 Expected COM Component not Present

                 {447cae10-7647-45f9-9ad8-68243ed5a2da} C:\Program Files\Common Files\mcafee\platform\mcbr3264.dll

            10. Repair of Registry entries worked fine, the missing component is still reported (even after 2 or 3 reruns of MVT)

As described by g4dds the file mcbr3264.dll is in folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\McAfee, which is not the folder where the registry points to.

            What is wrong here?

Should I take care of this MVT message?

Any suggestion what to do next?

            Thanks

            Michael

Only do something about it if the software is malfunctioning.  As I said earlier, MVT has been known to have it's own issues at times.

                Hi,

Could you please attach the logs from ‘%appdata%\McAfee\Supportability\MVTLogs\Results’, for further analysis?

                Thanks
