It's probablty already activated but it could also be corrupted.
Uninstall McAfee via Control Panel > Programs
Run the MCPR cleanup tool listed under "Useful Links" at the top of this page
Reinstall your software from you online account.
If that doesn't help, then contact Technical Support via the link under Useful Links.
thanks for your quick response...however I have done this and then it says windows in not suitable for this software and check for the update but there is no update..I dont know what to do...Please advise if you can help me to short out this issue...

The CD is labelled McAfee 2012? Where did you buy it from? I've never come across "windows in not suitable for this software" before I'm afraid.
It might help to contact Tecnical Support, it's free by phone or online chat and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.
I had bought it from super market around 4 months ago and its CD is labelled as Mcafee Internet Security 2012. I tried to contact Tech support as well but I think its no. is for US only and I am from Bahrain.
The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps Windows needs updating maybe?
