    My Real-Time Scanning won't stay on (McAfee Internet Security 2013)

      Hi,

       

      I recently uninstalled my Mcafee Internet Security and re-installed a new version that I bought.  I used the Mcafee Product Removal Tool to uninstall my old version, and then I used the web installer to download the latest version automatically from Mcafee.  After installing everything, I can't get my real-time scanning to stay on.  It keeps trying to turn on and it fails.  It tries to download updates, but it fails.  What is wrong?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  Below is a screenshot of my version info.

          Did you try rebooting?  Run the McAfee Virtual Technician to see if it can find and fix any problems:  http://mvt.mcafee.com/

           

          Any other symptoms indicaqting possible infection?

           

          Try some of the suggestions in the last link in my signature below.

            MVT did not do anything.  And I don't think I have an infection as this computer had a working version without any problems before I swapped to this version.

             

            I've rebooted several times.  Any other ideas?

              Not sure what to suggest as you appear to have done everything correctly from your first post.  Assuming you have no competing software installed and no infection then Technical Support is probably your best bet at this stage.

                      The board (Jive SBS) wont allow that unfortunately.

                       

                      If there are problems use Technical Support as there is little likelihood of anyone from McAfee coming through here until the New Year.

                        Thanks for linking this into my thread Ex_Brit.

                         

                        Still having the same issues as nymcafee99 and others and in honesty the problem has grown worse. Mcafee security center refuses to start protection untill well after one minute has elapsed since Windows logs in.

                         

                        I also notice that after an update and restart that in Windows task Manager i get sometimes in excess of 21 instances of Mcafee upate running. These do revert back normal after 2 or 3 re-boots of the system.

                         

                        I have uninstalled mcafee, ran MVT, ran pre-install utility and re-installed mcafee many times with no change in the behaviour. I have even gone so far as to totally reinstall Windows 8 pro x64 on brand new partitions with no applications installed and STILL Mcafee gives the same symptoms.

                         

                        Mcafee really have dropped the ball on this occasion with bringing out a major upgrade of their security suite right before the christmas break (which they Mcafee seem to have taked a whole week off!)

                         

                        Not impressed and im seriously thinking of giving Kaspersky a try after 5 years of loyal Mcafee subscription.

                          I have McAfee installed on every os from XP through Windows 8 and all of them work fine so I really don't understand why you are having those problems.  Technical Support is your best bet as I already said above.

                           

                          There is a chance you aren't installing the latest version if it's provided by a 3rd party such as your ISP or your PC maker but Support would be able to confirm that.
