Well, based on the limited info given, it is hard to know precisely what the problem could be.
What OS did you upgrade from?
What version of VirusScan Enterprise did you have installed prior to the upgrade, and what patches were installed?
Though not fully supported, the only version that is claimed to work with Windows 8 is VSE v8.8 SP2. Is that what you started with?
Is this system connected to ePO and has the ePO server been updated to handle Windows 8 and VSE v8.8 SP2?
One possible thing that may help, if you are using VSE v8.8 SP2, would be to download the SDatnnnn.exe file and install it. This will update the Dat version, but might also fix issues with corrupted communications which could be the cause. Follow this link to the SuperDat files:
You may need to execute sdat6914.exe (today's version) with the /F parameter. This 'forces' the install regardless of versions currently installed, even downgrading if that is the case.
