    Unable to install HIPS 7.00.953

      Hi All.

I wonder if someone can assist, I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to get HIPS 7.00.953 to install onto one of our EPO managed hosts.

Initally there was a problem with the HIPS client (7.0.0.688 I think) , which was refusing to start up when the machine started. I was unable to get HIPS to uninstall from the host, using the using the EPO. So I manually uninstalled using Document ID: 614226. And proceeded to remove all mcafee apps from the machine, except the epo agent (v4.0.0.1345)

I have since tried re-installing VirusScan 8.6 initally (and tried a second time using VSE8.7) onto the host, then once that was done, rebooted the machine and tried to deploy just the HIPS 7.0.0.953 client onto the host. (XP SP2), but it's just not installing.

The only error reference I can see is (see below)... would anyone have any suggestions on how to rectify this?. I have tried manually, but I don't think it's installing as I don't see any shield icon appearing.
(epo version is 4.0 patch 3 - same was occuring on patch version 2)

kb893803 is windows installer v3.1. i have many machines fail on HIPS 7 installation because they did not have their windows installer updated.

the patch is pushed out with HIPS 7 to address this issue, i would assume. but sometimes i still have problems and i have to run the KB locally before the HIPS deployment will succeed.

if you have not done this, i would give it a shot.

            thanks jsuuronen for the reply.

I did notice that microsoft KB program, for windows installer 3.1, in as part of the HIPS package (having previously tried to install manually). I did install this patch, and have rebooted, and subsequently removed the manual install as the firetray 'shield' icon isn't showing up.

Does anyone know the logs that would be referenced on the install of HIPS (at the EPO and client level), so I could try and fault find this?

thanks in advance for your assistance

In order to get around the problem I took the last resort of removing all HIPS components from EPO. having re-installed the extensions and the HIPS client apps back into EPO, seemed to resolve the job. (But be warned before you do this.. as it will wipe all HIPS firewall rules/settings that you may have had in place.. I did have them documented before hand.. thankfuly)

hi, glad you found a solution to the issue.

just FYI, the logfiles that i am aware of are stored in %windir%\temp\nailogs
