I think the general settings page for the machine config in EEM tells you what version is installed?
Yes it does. However I have 867 of these machines to update. And I have to roll through two updates. I want to do them in small batches so should I make separate groups? Or am I stuck going machine to machine in the EEM to see if its on version 5.2.5 yet and if so go to version 5.2.12?
not sure what your question is - are you asking how to upgrade in small groups?
You could script it I guess, or make separate groups - whichever works best for you? I'm not sure but you might even be able to do a "find" on that field.

Normally i used sbadmcl to get detail for all my machines..
"sbadmcl -command:GetLastCheckinDate -Group:* -adminuser:admin -adminpwd:<mypassword> > alldata.csv"
(This command not only for lastcheckindate but all the detail including version as well)
Yes I have used the same command. Works great! I also use the reporting tool to list what version each client is. That is very handy as well!
