By hidden do you mean it is greyed out or missing from SecurityCenter > PC and Home Network Tools?
Have you run any registry cleaners lately as they have a habit of removing large chunks of essential security software, if so check if it has a reverse process?
Try running the Virtual Technician http://mvt.mcafee.com/ to see if it can fix it.
That tells me that it's running. So it looks like it's stuck.
It looks like you are running Windows 7 so right-click the bottom taskbar and select Task Manager and OK any prompts.
Go to the Processes tab When it comes up select show processes from all users and OK any prompts.
Scroll down the Processes and look for any begijning with Qc... and end them.
If that's successful I suggest you clear your temp files through Windows first before attempting it again.
Go to Start and type Run in that empty search box just above the button.
Select it from the list above
Type in temp and click OK or hit the Enter key.
Click Edit > Select All
Click Shift/Delete together and OK any prompts.
Not all will go but if you are on the ball most will.
Repeat that process typing in %temp%.
Also run Windows Disk Cleanup tool from time to time
It's under Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Free Up Space

Do it again and ask for escalation to McAfee upper tier support.
