We have the same Problem.
XPSP3 / VSE8.7 Patch2 + Hotfix VSE870HF517265 /Epo 4.5 / Agent 4.5 /
We have the same problem too. No Taskbar icon after hotfix application. I have made our suppliers known of this and they will be in discussion with McAfee.
See KB67174: "VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i system tray icon disappears if McAfee Agent 4.5.0 and VSE 8.7i Patch 2 with HF517265 are installed"
Sorry, but they wouldn't have posted the updated KB if it wasn't causing issues for customers. This issue is referenced by another member of this forum in another thread so I believe it is a problem for some. Definitely not all though...so far in my testing I'm not having issues with this hotfix.
I have seen, however, a number of 2003 servers that experienced the initial problem with mcshield.exe crashing even without MA 4.5. This seems to be mainly tied to patch 2 for VSE8.7i.
Just to add my experiences to this thread...
In our testing environment (Agent 184.108.40.2060 - ePO 4.5 - SQL2005Express)
VSE8.7 with patch 2 and with HF517265:
no icon on taskbar, but Mctray.exe in the processes list; redeployed Agent 220.127.116.110 to this system (Win XP SP3) and the agent icon appears in the taskbar. Reboot, icon disappears;
The User interface Policy settings are for icon with minimal menu options
Thanks McAfee :mad:
HF517265 fixes some crash issues related to the systray icon with vse p2 and ms4.5 and access protection processes, but it also causes the systray icon to dissapear
This is expected behavior for systems managed by ePolicy Orchestrator.
I reckon they will eventually issue another HF or repost VSE8.7P2 with a fix for this. I believe most of the customers still want to see the VSE or Agent icon in the taskbar.
Is your MA policy set to show the system tray icon?
