    Live Security Platinum virus removal

How do I remove this virus that Mcafee is currently unable to detect and how long before Mcafee fixes this leak?

Tech support essentially offered to fix the problem for $89, guaranteed for a whole 7 days.  Thanks

I moved this to Malware Discussions to get wider attention.   I also removed your email address from your user name for your own security.   Never post email addresses or other personal information in a public forum.

None of the antivirus engines, no matter what brand, are any good against fake anti-malware or ransomware because of the way it works which involves some action by the recipient in order to activate it, even something seemingly innocuous such as trying to dismiss a popup.

The first thing to try is System Restore to before all this started.  If you can't do anything in regular mode, try booting into Safe Mode with Networking by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up.

Now without knowing your operating system and service pack the following varies a little.

Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools and locate it there, or go to Start.Run and type in rstrui.exe and hit the Enter key or click OK.   It takes a while to appear sometimes so be patient.

In Vista/Windows 7 you can type it in the Start/Search box and then click the item when it appears in the box above.

          Try that first.

If not successful then try downloading Stinger and Malwarebytes Free (see the last link in my signature) in 'Safe Mode with Networking' if necessary and rename them before saving the installer to the desktop.

Stinger can then be run in regular mode but Malwarebytes Free can be installed, updated and run all in Safe Mode with Networking.

Try those next and if not successful run Hijackthis and post its log on one of the specialist forums suggested in that last link in my signature, lower down.

That shouldn't stop you following the advice in my previous post.

Thank you all for your posts. Problem solved. On July 17th Mcafee created an update that included a solution to the live security virus. Once I downloaded the update it detected the virus and eliminated it.

                  God bless,

i would strongly recommend that you run a full Microsoft update and install any missing items-- also patch JAVA..

Last night, McAfee (AOL Version) brought up the Trojan identified screen. Then immediately Live Security Platinum starting installing on my computor.

I was on Yahoo and shopping for Honda mower parts. I have seen McAfee capture trojans in the past. But this is a first. Is this a new variant?

I worked with AOL and used Rkill and Malwarebytes to eliminate it. (I hope). Question: why did it get past Mcafee and why are we using free shareware to clean up this problem?

Has anybody else recently experienced this? I thought it was fixed in July?

Last week, 2 hours before i went on vacation, i was surfing on a normal website when a so called police virus took my computer. everything was up to date, i think, but i think now that a new hole in Java is causing this problem. I googled a while and found a solution, also with freeware software. Hope that it wil work, or that mcafee will have a solution right now.
