1) add some ram
2) add some more ram
3) wait for vse87i patch1
4) call McAfee support if still not resolved after patch 1
Problem persists across reboots ?
Yes, the problem persists after reboots.
We found that 8.7i client needs 1GB of RAM to run smoothly. It gets very nasty during the DAT update process.
I am having the same problem and only after upgrading ram to 1GB did the problem go away.
VirusScan Enterprise 8.7 + AntiSpyware
Unfortunatly, at the moment, we don't have the opportunity to increase memory. Is there anything else that can resolve the problem?
In 8.5i such problems was resolved by patches. But I can find nothing in KBs about 8.7i.
As JeffGerard has said, McAfee are releasing a Patch towards the end of the month that may improve the system performance when using VS8.7. If you look in this section of the forum you will see the link to that patch's release notes.
I'll repeat what others have said here.. Running a W2000 or XP computer with only 256 MB of RAM and any version of McAfee will cause the computer to stall out.. A common minimum RAM amount for our XP'
s is 512 MB, and I mean "minimum" and no patch is going to cure the issue.. In fact, I'm not sure how you've made the computer work well previously.. For about $60, you can visit Crucial.com and purchase another 512 MB even for the older PC133 memory.. You'd probably save $60 in work efficiency in a month..
So to answer your question: "Is there anything else that can resolve the problem?"
Hope this helps.
