EMM Proxy: High availability installation method

    johnsonchuang

      Hi all,

The knowledge base of McAfee: KB70278 describe us to follow the solution below. What if I install "Dual Server (External)" in primary proxy server and install "Dual Server (External)" again in secondary proxy server. Will that also work without problem? Unfortunately, KB70278 only for EMM 9.x. I choose the step above as I don't want to miss anything. Do you guys experience this scenario? Thanks!

      Solution 2

Use this solution if you plan to deploy EMM with the Proxy in a High Availability environment.

Identify the server configuration, create a cluster, and install components other than the proxy
In this scenario, there is a need to maintain a High Availability environment where the Proxy is always accessible, or there is a need to install the Proxy on two or more server nodes that are on a cluster with load balancing.

      1. Identify the server configuration that you will require to install EMM in a Dual Server/HA mode. Refer to the following section of the Enterprise Mobility Management 9.x Installation Guide:Preparing For Installation, Deployment Scenarios. The instructions work with either single server or dual server deployment.
      2. Create a cluster using the Network Load Balancing Manager. Ensure there are at least two nodes in the cluster, and the address is accessible externally. For more details, see:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc759510%28WS.10%29.aspx.
      3. Complete installation of all components other than the proxy, either in a dual or single server installation:

        • For a Single server installation, select Custom installation on the options page and select all components except the proxy.  Proceed with installation as described in the Enterprise Mobility Management 9.x Installation Guide. On the LDAP Settings page use the Cluster DNS name for the ActiveSync External DNS field.
        • For a Dual server installation:
          1. Install the internal components on the server identified in the first step using the Dual server-internal components on the Options page. Proceed with the installation as described in the Enterprise Mobility Management 9.x Installation Guide. On the LDAP Settings page use the Cluster DNS name for the ActiveSync External DNS field.
          2. Install the external components on the server identified in the first step using Custom installation on the Options page. Select only Portal and DMG to install. Proceed with installation as described in the Enterprise Mobility Management 9.x Installation Guide. <<<How about Push Notifier component?

Install the proxy on each node

      1. Log on to the first node in the cluster to install the proxy.
      2. Run setup.exe.
      3. On the Agreement page, accept the user agreement, select User configuration from previous installation, and click Next.
      4. On the Options page, select Custom installation.
      5. On the Components page, select Proxy and type the correct Hub server address, then click Next.
      6. On the DMZ Component settings page, enter the Exchange ActiveSync server address, then click Next.
      7. Proceed with the installation as described in the Enterprise Mobility Management 9.x Installation Guide. On the LDAP Settings page use the Cluster DNS name for the ActiveSync External DNSfield.
      8. Verify that the installation information is correct, then click Install.

Repeat the steps in in the section "Install the proxy on each node" to install the proxy on each node of the cluster.
