Hello Everybody,

Before updating many people told me to disable antivirus or it will give you error while updating.

So need help of you guys on how to disable Mcaffee for a temporary period.

Thank You

    Hi there,

Normally, we don’t recommend disabling McAfee software, at the max you can try updating windows without disabling it.  Yet, Please find below the steps to disable McAfee Antivirus .

    1. Double-click the M icon in your taskbar.
    2. Click Navigation and select the Real-Time Scanning link.
    3. Click Turn OFF.

NOTE: The Turn OFF button will be available only when Real-Time Scanning is on.

    4. Return to the main SecurityCenter page and verify that Real-Time Scanning remains off
    5. select the Firewall link.
    6. Click Turn OFF
    7. Close McAfee SecurityCenter.

Please ensure to turn them back after the updates are done

    Regards,

    Hi invinci,

Uninstall McAfee Completely. Reboot the computer. If you have a Windows Registry Cleaner use it. I recommend TuneUp Utilities 2012 which you can try for 15-days for free. http://www.tune-up.com/

Before you Uninstall McAfee Completely, download the Windows XP Service Pack 3 from here:  http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=24 You need to Sign in first.

And save it to your Briefcase Folder or Desktop.

Reboot the computer after running the Registry Cleaner.

Install Windows XP Service Pack 3. Reboot the computer. Download the rest of the Updates from Windows Updates, before you reinstall McAfee Anti-Virus Plus.

    Why uninstall?

I did the XP Clean Boot and McAfee was unchecked from coming up as a Service, but it was still running. This is why you need to Uninstall McAfee Anti-Virus Plus Completely. There is your proof.

    Hi Dinz,

McAfee needs to be uninstall completely, because McAfee Real-Time Scanning can't be disabled. See my PrtScrn Snapshot to invinci.
