I believe the latest 8.5 patch is #7. The unpatched 8.5 has several really nasty bugs that leave files locked open or just times out trying to scan them.
I agree a minimum of patch 5 is required
Thanks for the quick replies.
Looks like I'm already on patch 7; about window says "installed patches: 7"?
How big are the files? Lots of Macros or other items that could slow down scanning? I also assume the engine is up to date, as it has some enhancements, too. 5300 is the latest released version.
Scan engine version reads as : 5300.2777
It does not so much seem to be affected by the size of the file.
Also just to clarify, this issue only affects files with a .doc or .xls extension of any size.
On the server, have you got it set to on-access scan on read AND write?
If so, disable read. I do this as standard on all servers; no point having the server scan a file, then the client scan it again when copying/opening a file.
Whilest I don't disgree with the "suggested on-access policy" for Servers - you seem to be ignoring the fact that this is reported as only being a problem AFTER the upgrade to 8.5....
If on-access was read+write with 8.0 it shouldn't necessarily be much worse now - unless the upgrade has changed the policy...
Ok, the OAS was set to read + write (as it also was before the upgrade) and after disabling read, the problem has gone.
What would be the implications of leaving the sever OAS in just write mode?
assuming its patched up on OS and you run regular on demand scans you should be ok
